Museu do Chocalho
The Alcáçovas rattles are of ancient origin, handmade using a complex technique to produce sound, which depends on the thickness of the sheet and the amount of metal used. Each one has a design representing the artisan's mark (known as a coat of arms). They are worn around the necks of certain animals – such as cows or sheep – to guide others while they graze.
