Reserva Natural das Berlengas
Islands located northwest of Peniche and Cabo Carvoeiro, they are a granite formation approximately 280 million years old. The largest is Berlenga Grande Island, but the archipelago is made up of a number of other islets surrounding it (Estelas and Farilhões). Being a major nesting and refuge site for seabirds, the reserve is home to a wide variety of species. The only habitable island is Berlenga Grande, with a small fishing neighborhood, a port, the Duque de Bragança Lighthouse, the Fort of São João Baptista, a camping area, and a restaurant. It has been a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve since 2011.
