Ecomuseu de Barroso - Espaço Padre Fontes

The Barroso Ecomuseum is a key element of the integrated and sustainable development strategy for the Barroso region. It integrates documentation, research, and interpretation of the region's cultural and natural values. The headquarters serves as the Regional Interpretation Center, boasting a wealth of creativity and the ability to motivate visitors to explore the thematic centers scattered throughout the municipality. It is located in the area surrounding Montalegre Castle, forming part of its wall. The public space aims to offer visitors the experience of the senses that this region offers: the sound of oxcarts, the images we can't always capture, the smell and taste of Barroso's fine products, the feel of grain passing through our fingers and then being ground into flour. In the various rooms, sensations are recreated through sounds, smells, images, and flavors, challenging visitors to "get their hands dirty." The temporary exhibitions will address the strong themes of Barrosã identity, assuming the Ecomuseum as a space always available for artisans and artists from the region to showcase their works, serving as a "window" for visitors and a "mirror" for locals.
