This museum is located in the Gorjão Palace, a former Coimbra manor house dating back to the 17th century. On a 35-hectare farm, an oriental garden was born in a centuries-old forest, next to a lake and along a green area with a large expanse of vineyards. Featuring three hundred Buddhist statues, this oriental garden was conceived and designed by Commander José Berardo as a response to the destruction of the Giant Buddhas of Bamyan. Bacalhôa Buddha Eden seeks to be a space of reconciliation, without any religious bias, inviting unity, communication, and meditation as a way to rediscover happiness.

La iglesia fue fundada por la reina Leonor a principios del siglo XVI. Remodelado en el siglo XVIII, el campanario también es de esa época. El interior, de tres naves, está revestido con azulejos del siglo XVII. Cabe destacar el retablo mayor original, ahora en la sacristía, compuesto por cinco paneles con pinturas de António Costa de 1600 e imaginería.
