A rectangular castle with two corners formed by towers. It was built by King Dinis in the 13th century. One of the entrance gates bears the royal crown and King Manuel's coat of arms. Currently, only sections of the wall remain, some of which are integrated into buildings, such as the Porta da Conceição and the Torre da Couraça.

The first Franciscan convent founded in Portugal in 1222 by order of Dona Sancha, daughter of Dom Sancho I. Although deeply damaged by the 1755 earthquake, some elements from earlier periods remain. The building's main portal is topped by a triangular pediment and surmounted by an oculus flanked by two crevices. The interior features three naves, divided by arches and supported by Tuscan columns. The chancel features a ribbed vault with smooth quoins. Particularly noteworthy are the 17th-century carvings on the altars and the tile covering from the same period.
