Ponte de Lima

Created in the 70s after the restoration works of the Mother Church, it gathers, preserves and exhibits part of the collection of religious art existing in Ponte de Lima. The permanent exhibition features collections of paintings and jewelry, in addition to many 18th century sculptures, with an emphasis on some pieces from the medieval period.

Late Gothic church that succeeded an even older one and grew from just one nave to three. Inside, the highlight goes to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, which belonged to the Solar de Bertiandos.

Bridge with two distinct sections, one of Roman origin and the other of medieval origin. The medieval section consists of fifteen arches and the Roman section of 7. It is closed to car traffic.

Ponte de Lima

One of the few vestiges of the old medieval walls, with a quadrangular plan and prismatic battlements. It was adapted to a prison in the 16th century (D. Manuel I). It currently houses the Tourist Office and hosts temporary exhibitions.

Ponte de Lima

The Veigas section, in Ponte de Lima, establishes the connection between the town and the pier of Vitorino das Donas, passing through emblematic points such as the Roman-Gothic bridge, the Towers of São Paulo and Cadeia Velha, following Avenida dos Plátanos and Nossa Senhora da Guia Chapel, to the typical landscapes of the Lima stream, in the lowlands of Correlhã, Seara and Vitorino das Donas.

Localizado a a 488 metros de altitude, foi local de culto desde tempos ancestrais. A Capela de Nossa Senhora da Penha foi construída por devoção popular, depois de uma aparição de Nossa Senhora a uma pastora. Destaque ainda para a ermida de São Saturnino e para o palacete romântico-revivalista de 1918.

This building is formed by two bodies with sober and well proportioned lines, revealing a neoclassic style. In 1802 the two lateral bodies were connected by a huge triumphal arch, celebrating Dom João IV visit. On the inside the highlights are one of the room’s wall paintings in Pillemet type and the Convention room with mythological and maritime scenes. In the last years the Palace is being used as a luxury hotel, but its original characteristics have been preserved.

16th century temple of a single nave with lateral porch Mannerist and a magnificent dome, topped by a statue representing St. Michael the Archangel. In the chancel, with Greek cross floorplan, looms ahead an altarpiece of Baroque carved, gilded and painted, with double columns and lintels, torsas. Also, inside, to the screens, tiles and statuary.

This church was the temple of the Monks of the São José de Jerusalém brotherhood, having been later given to the Religious Order of Malta. Later on, it underwent several remodelling works, presenting a façade crowned with a bell tower and a portal flanked by four pairs of columns, with golden chapiters. There’s another portal at the north façade where the Malta Cross is carved.

The primitive monastery dates from the middle of the 9th century. The reconstruction of the new church began in the 16th century and was finished in the 18th century. The granite façade shows some austerity and the church presents a single nave, with a circumscribed transept, a rectangular main chapel and bell towers. Inside the main altar stands out, as well as the two cross altars, built later, the high choir and the ceiling in vault.
