Next to the Doors of the city stands the statue of Gonçalo Velho Cabral and the old buildings of the square with the same name of the browser.

Much sought after by tourists, what remains of the Albicastrense Castle rises in an area overlooking the city. It was built by the Templars in the Middle Ages, this despite the traces of human presence in that area in pre- and proto-history, having been surrounded by a line of walls and towers. In the precinct of the fortress, in the citadel, were the Church of Santa Maria do Castelo and the Palácio dos Alcaides. This fortification was part of a defensive system that bordered the Tagus River.

The first Cove North of the lighthouse, at the mouth of the great tit, there are numerous trails of footprints of dinosaurs (round-shaped). Looking carefully you can see the mark of the rectangular tail. The trail begins in what is now the bed of the Atlantic Ocean and follows the escarpment top.

This palace was built in the middle of the XVI century by a local family named Furtado Mendonça. It is still possible to observe the arms of this family over the main door of the building. It presents a renascent profile. In the end of the XIX century the palace was used as headquarters of the Liceu de Beja and nowadays it became a students’ residence.
