This museum aims to showcase the “Cradle of Alvarinho”, its territory and its people, promoting the Monção and Melgaço Sub-region as a unique territory for the production of Alvarinho wine.
This museum is a cultural unit of the University of Minho, which created this space with the legacy left by Dona Maria Teresa Cardeal Andrade Martins Salgueiro, who passed away on October 29, 2001. This is a way to showcase the property and its contents, as well as to witness the lifestyle of an upper-bourgeois family in the Alto Minho region during the first half of the 20th century. In addition to the collection on display, it hosts a variety of events.
The Cine Teatro João Verde opened in June 1949, becoming since then, in one of the most important rooms of spectacles of the Alto Minho. After a thorough refurbishment process, initiated in 1998, the Hall reopened in April 2013, keeping the original architectural building moth and resumes activity with film projection, music concerts and presentation of plays.
Designed by architect Paulo Gomes, the Municipal File of Monção, formerly Guild crop comprises three floors with spaces intended for consultation, preparation and processing of all the existing documentation on the municipal activity.
